Sailing on the telly

Yachting on the box with APP Broadcast

Thursday December 4th 2003, Author: James Boyd, Location: United Kingdom
2003 has been a very special year in British sailing from round the world racing and record attempts to the spectrum of Olympic sailing where Britain again topped the world league tables.

APP Broadcast’s 2003 British Grand Prix Sailing Review joins Ellen MacArthur MBE and her crew of the 110ft catamaran Kingfisher2 as they brave the Southern Ocean on a drag race around the planet in an attempt to set a new Jules Verne Trophy record. We celebrate with the runner-up in the Sunday Times Women Personality of the Award, Emma Richards, as she completes the world’s longest singlehanded race, Around Alone. And we watch in awe as the British Olympic Sailing Team tops the world medal table at the ISAF Olympic Classes World Championship in Spain with two golds, two silvers and a bronze.

Plus, features on Britain’s other top sailing athletes and features from Britain’s leading regattas and sailing events including Tracy Edwards, Sam Davies, Mike Golding, Alex Thomson, Conrad Humphreys, the Admiral’s Cup, Skandia Cowes Week.

And finally, a look ahead to 2004: it’s Olympic year and can Britain surpass the unsurpassable Sydney medal haul at Athens 2004? Up to four teams are due to set out on round the world record attempts in early 2004, the Timberland Euro Prix European Cup of Sailing kicks off in May and in November the Vendée Globe - the race that made Ellen MacArthur famous - will feature a strong British entry. Can a British sailor make history by winning France’s greatest ocean race?
