A new Round Hawaii course set and an explanation of why the recent Round Britain Race times do not count

The World Speed Sailing Record Council have announced their recognition of a new record course "Around the Big Island of Hawaii" - a distance of 251 nm.

Subject to ratification the inaugural record has been claimed by Fast Company - an Olson 30 monohull, skippered by American Mitch Green and a crew of four.
Their elapsed time for the course was 2 days 7 hours 10 minutes 58 seconds.

The WSSRC have also confirmed that the times set in the Open 60s' recent Calais Round Britain Race have not been ratified because the start and finish lines for the race were not the same.

As there was only a few miles difference, the WSSRC suggested to the organisers that they arrange for the winning boat to sail on the short distance to the finish line to establish a time which the WSSRC could recognise. However this proved impossible for various reasons including a night time finish.
