Dominion Fiduciary Services Ltd (DFSL) has signed up to sponsor British yachtsman and Route du Rhum winner Phil Sharp. The sponsorship will last throughout Sharp’s current Figaro campaign which culminates in the doublehanded transatlantic race, the Transat AG2R starting on 20 April 2008.
The Jersey-based trust company and specialist corporate and personal tax planner will become principal partner of Phil Sharp Racing with a view to supporting Sharp as he works towards his ultimate goal, an entry in the 2012 Vendée Globe.
Sharp will be the only British sailor taking part in the Transat AG2R and will compete with team mate David Krizek, the Czech Republic’s top offshore sailor.
Speaking at the sponsorship announcement in Jersey, Sharp said: “I’m really pleased to announce that Dominion Fiduciary will be the principle partner for my Figaro campaign and the forthcoming Transat AG2R. This announcement marks the start of a long term relationship that will enable me to move up to Open 60 racing and ultimately qualify for the formula 1 of sailing, the Vendée Globe 2012. Dominion is very enthusiastic about teamwork, endurance, and basically pushing through the normal limits of everyday life and doing something unique.
"I'm also very grateful to Dominion for their generous support towards Sail 4 Cancer, my chosen charity of support throughout the campaign. Sail 4 Cancer is a charity based organisation that aims to improve the quality of life of the individuals and their families affected by cancer by giving them the opportunity to go sailing”.
DFSL’s Support Manager, Anthony Smith said: “Dominion Fiduciary Services Group is delighted to be able to provide corporate sponsorship to assist Phil Sharp with his latest sailing endeavour. The sport of offshore sailing requires teamwork and the ability to work together towards a common goal. Dominion Fiduciary recognises the importance of teamwork and the achievements of the organisation to date are the results of the combined effort of each individual that make up the firm. On behalf of all the Directors and 90 Staff at Dominion Fiduciary, we wish Phil and fellow team member David Krizek every success in the forthcoming Transat AG2R.
“Dominion Fiduciary is also very pleased to be able to make a considerable contribution towards Phil’s chosen charity namely Sail 4 Cancer whose main objectives are to raise funds for cancer treatment, care and research through the organisation of high profile sailing events”.
The sponsorship, managed by Arena International, will begin with immediate effect. Sharp will take part in the Figaro Nationals before joining the Transat AG2R race village in Concarneau, western France. The race starts on 20 April 2008 and will see competitors race 3700 miles from Concarneau to St Barts in the Caribbean.
