The weather forecast for the North Atlantic have convinced Thomas Coville to fly off to New York to rejoin his maxi-trimaran Sodebo in order to make his attempt on the west to east transatlantic record. In fact several weather windows are opening next week, which should provide Coville with several options as to when he will depart on the record course between New York and the Lizard.
Sodebo's team of weather routers believe that the weather window for setting off could come on Monday or Tuesday next week, but there is a second option later in the week.
“It’s excellent at the start and a little less so at the finish," commented Coville shortly before flying off to the United States with his shore crew, Jochen Krauth and Martial Salvant. "But the routing remains within the record time of 6 days, 4 hours, 1 minute and 37 seconds. We’re not sure about the end of the attempt, but we do know that now is the best period in terms of the climate and the weather, which is something I'm delighted about!”
