In fog that you could cut with a knife, Thomas Coville on his 32m long maxi trimaran
Sodebo passed the Lizard, setting a new time for the west to east crossing of the Atlantic singlehanded.
The giant red trimaran passed the Lizard at 07:17:40 GMT this morning establishing a time of 5 days, 19 hours, 29 minutes and 20 seconds, although this must await ratification by the World Sailing Speed Record Council.
The previous record was set by Francis Joyon in his previous IDEC trimaran in 2005, with a time of 6 days, 4 hours, 1 minute and 37 seconds.
After putting in another costly gybe to the northeast in yesterday evening while crossing the Celtic Sea, so Thomas Coville and Sodebo gybed back to the southeast at 2215 GMT last night. The red 100ft trimaran passed Land's End at around 0500 GMT this morning.
