Triple round the world yachtsman and BLUE® Ambassador, Conrad Humphreys is to speak at the Global Forum for Sport and the Environment Conference, taking place in Alicante, Spain over 4-6 October. Conrad will attend the Conference with fellow BLUE® Ambassador, Jose Luengo who is Spain’s triple world champion freestyle kite surfer.

Organised every two years by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Global Sports Alliance (GSA), the Global Forum for Sport and the Environment (G-ForSE) brings together international sport stakeholders to review sports impact and its contribution to the environment and climate change.

G-ForSE 2008 will provide a platform to discuss the integration of environmental issues in the development of sports facilities, equipment and the staging of sports events. It also provides a platform to discuss the role of sport in promoting environmental awareness and best practice.

The Forum which is sponsored by Volvo and coincides with the start of the first in-port race of the Volvo Ocean Race in Alicante will bring together 200 delegates from all over the world including international governing bodies, Olympic host city representatives, sport organisations and event organisers to discuss ways in which the sport industry can reduce its impact on the environment.

Conrad Humphreys, “It is a great honour to be asked to speak at the United Nations conference on Sport and the Environment. It is extremely important that our industry moves forward towards a sustainable future and plays a major role in engaging people with our natural environment.”
