Samantha Davies, sailing her Open 60 Roxy in the Vendée Globe has been awarded an Honorary Membership of the Royal Southern Yacht Club.

Commodore of the Royal Southern, John Beardsley, spoke to Davies via satellite phone shortly after she passed Cape Horn in the Southern Ocean. She was lying in fourth place on the water out of the 12 remaining competitors.

Sam said that she was delighted and thrilled at the great honour of being given Honorary Membership of such a prestigious and great Yacht Club. She looked forward to her return to Hamble to say thank you, while reuniting with many friends.

The Royal Southern boasts as members some of the best yacht racing sailors in the world and Samantha now joins that elite group. The Royal Southern is proud to welcome such an accomplished yachtswoman to the fold and wishes her all the best in completing the Vendée Globe race. There are still many tough miles ahead, the Doldrums to cross, and keen competitors ahead and astern.
