So much for every year...

Mini class' even year Transat has been canned

With the Mini Transat perpetually over-subscribed, it was a smart move by the class to take the pressure off by finally (after at least 10 years of talking about it) introducing another transatlantic race on even years.

Sadly we have heard that the first of these 'even year' events, which was to have been staged next year, has been canned. The organisers, Winches Courses, have state that they have been unable to find the funding to run the event.

In a note sent to potential competitors Winches Courses write: "With this situation, primarily due to the current economic situation, we can not progress as we would have liked in the preparation of the organisation of this event.

"We are aware of the consequences that this cancellation will result in for those who have been preparing for the race for several months already. This decision is not easy to take, but out of respect for the competitors and Class Mini, we must make this difficult choice now."

Winches Course are hoping that they will be able to run the event in 2012.
