Aviva sets a new non-stop monohull record around the British isles, reports Miranda Merron

The past 24 hours have been fairly tough, as we have been dealing with light and variable wind along the south coast of England. We saw a lot of the Lizard and at one stage during the night, we were only making 0.5 knots against the tide, and the lights of Portland featured in the distance for many hours. We have had every single sail (apart from the storm jib) up at least twice in the past day, so we are getting quite good at sail changes now!

We have 6 miles to the finish, there is not much wind but a lot of tide flowing in the right direction. It is a stunning morning for the finish of what has been a great adventure with, at times, truly superb sailing conditions.
Plus we have had a lot of FUN!!

later...

We crossed the finish line at 0840 and 29 seconds - after several short tacks between St Catherines Point and the finsih line off Ventnor - in keeping with what has been a fairly physical race, it was fitting to finish with some high energy tacks!

We have been told that the new record time is 6 days 11 hours 30 minutes 53 seconds. We have beaten the previous record by 17 hours 16 minutes.

Love from us all on the fine ship Aviva

Miranda
