Tuesday September 2nd 2008, Author: Miranda Merron, Location: United Kingdom
With the burgeoning popularity in the Class 40 on both side of the Channel (and the Atlantic in fact), so Miranda Merron and Muriel Robin (Class 40 Association secretary) will be at the Guinness stand at the Southampton Boat Show on Friday 12 September from 3pm onwards to answer questions about this fast-growing and popular class. The fleet now stands at 78 boats, with a busy and geographically diverse race schedule, from three day events to transatlantic races. Class 40s are raced crewed, double-handed and solo.

The original goal of the class was to make offshore races accessible to amateur sailors. The success of the class has moved it beyond these parameters, with many professional sailors attracted to it, but it definitely remains a class for both amateurs and professionals. Part of the attraction of this class is the simple box-rule, which keeps costs down.
