Bostik reaches Wellington
Friday March 7th 2008, Author: SolOceans, Location: United Kingdom
Yesterday at 22:30GMT, Bostik, the first Veolia Oceans one-design, finally arrived in Wellington, New Zealand on her tour, testing out the race course for next year's singlehanded round the world one design race, the SolOceans.
As Bostik pulled into the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club, the sun was shining, the sky was blue and a force 7 wind allowed skipper Charles Caudrelier and Liz Wardley a beautiful end to the first leg of their round-the-world reconnaissance tour, having left Caen in northern France on 16 December.
En route they stopped twice, once in Lisbon (Portugal), once in Cape Town (South Africa).
A year after the announcement of the official partnership with Veolia Environmental Services was made, the first Veolia Oceans one-design has completed its first 14,000nm test sail.
"We feel like we have perfectly carried out our duty", explained Charles Caudrelier on his arrival. "We have proved that the Veolia Oceans one-design is safe and at ease in the Great South. Such a test has never been done before launching a new series of offshore racing yacht. It's very important to do it and I am happy I have done it".
