Two newbie sailors have teamed up and entered the Portimão Global Ocean Race - and already have the camera crew in tow for a series of fly-on-the-wall documentaries as the pair tackle the round the world course.
The Portimão Global Ocean Race is the new solo-double around-the-worldyacht race lasting 9 months. The event, open to 40 and 50 foot monohull sailboats only, will start from Portimão,Portugual in October 2008 and circumnavigate the world stopping in SouthAfrica, New Zealand, Brazil and the United States before finishing in Europe in June 2009.
Jeremy Salvesen and Victoria Sanders-Perrin only started sailing back in August 2005 when they signed on to the now defunct Global Challenge of Sir Chay Blyth. Salvesen and Sanders-Perrin have given up their jobs, sold their houses and moved to Portsmouth to embark on a vigorous training programme.
Salvesen, 45, from Fife on the west coast of Scotland was an owner of an entrepreneur confectionary business. Sanders-Perin is 33 born in Cape Town, and who only a month ago was still looking after half a billion turnover for Xerox.
Salvesen and Sanders-Perrin made plans for a Class 40 entry into the race and met with race organiser Josh Hall during Cowes Week 2007 to discuss their ambitions.
Goldhawk Media are developing a series of documentaries to reflect the reality, glamour and danger of offshore racing and the adventures of the Ambition Racing team will be central to the programmes. The filming has already started withthe collection and journey back in their 40ft monohull across the rough English Channel.
Executive Producer Paul Cleary said, "We are really excited about being involved with the PortimãoGlobal Ocean Race. The programs will bring the audience right into the high seas action to share the experience with the crews as they traverse some of the roughest and most hostile waters onthe planet."
A fixed diary camera, ‘BigBrother’ style, will also be onboard – to track their innermost thoughts and catch both their highs and when they are at theirmost vulnerable.
