Sail for Cancer across the Atlantic

Sail 4 Cancer Ambassador Phil Sharp is on the final countdown to his next big venture - the Figaro Transat AG2R starting on Sunday 20 April. Although this is one of the world’s most competitive offshore racing arenas, attracting the top ocean racing talent of today, Sharp is the only Briton competing in this 3,700 mile race from Concarneau, France to St Barts in the Caribbean.
Sharp has teamed up with friend David Krizek, one of the Czech Republic’s top offshore sailors, in this biennial double-handed transatlantic race. A keen supporter of Sail 4 Cancer, Sharp is hoping to raise money for the charity through participating in this event.
Sharp comments: “This is my first race in the Figaro circuit and I'm really looking forward to getting out there and stuck into offshore sailing's most competitive short-handed class. I am the only Brit in the race dominated almost entirely by French and as a 'newbie' to the circuit it's going to be a very demanding test in a class heavily reliant on experience. I feel very proud to be able to help raise money for Sail 4 Cancer throughout the race and will gain a motivational boost by every extra penny raised, so I'd be grateful if you can get donating early and generously and order that I can get to the Caribbean as quickly as possible!" To sponsor Sharp, please see the Sail 4 Cancer website on www.sail4cancer.org.
The Jersey based private trust administrator, Dominion Fiduciary Services Group (DFSG) who have signed up to sponsor Sharp, have agreed to make a donation to the charity. Sharp comments: "I'm also very grateful to Dominion Fiduciary Services Group for their generous contribution to the charity. Dominion are a Jersey-based private trust administrator that are very pleased to support what is an extremely worthy cause and I look forward to others following."
At 26 years old, Sharp is Britain’s most promising up and coming offshore yachtsman. He recently triumphed in the notorious Route du Rhum 2006 solo transat race, taking victory in Class 40 and finishing nearly a whole day ahead of his rivals. Sharp is the first Briton to win his class in this event since Dame Ellen MacArthur, and he steps firmly into her shoes as the next big hope in offshore sailing.
