Route change for Geoff Holt
Thursday July 26th 2007, Author: Event press/dailysail, Location: United Kingdom
Quadriplegic sailor, Geoff Holt, who is attempting to sail around Great Britain has been forced to change his route to go through the Caledonian Canal, due to the adverse weather conditions the country is experiencing this summer. The new route has taken him through the Canal with the North West Highands of Scotland on his port side and city of Inverness at the Canal's exit to the north east.
Geoff, 41, from Hampshire, is paralysed from the breast line down the result of a swimming accident when he was 18 years old.
On Wednesday Geoff sailed for more than 11 hours, six of them spent sailing through the many locks on the Canal. After completing the Caledonian Canal, Geoff headed for Nairn, with a good offshore breeze and plenty of dolphins and seals to keep him company. On Thursday Geoff hopes to leave at 0800hrs en route for Buckie.
Geoff’s Personal Everest Project has been made possible by sponsorship from law firm Blake Lapthorn Tarlo Lyons, who are providing the funds to ensure that Geoff has the necessary back-up team and equipment to make his Personal Everest attempt safe and efficient.
