New FleetPhone launched by Inmarsat

Inmarsat, the global mobile satellite communications services company, has announced the availability of FleetPhone, the maritime version of its IsatPhone and LandPhone satellite phone service. The service will be initially available in the South China Sea and Indian Ocean region and will ultimately be available on a global basis. FleetPhone terminals are expected to retail at about US$1,500, with voice call charges expected to cost less than US$1 per minute.

The compact terminal with integrated handset is purpose-built for below deck operation. A lightweight omni-directional antenna is mounted above deck and all components are designed for marine conditions and to meet maritime industry standards.

The satellite phone service portfolio is available from eight Inmarsat distribution partners - ACeS, Chinasat, Evosat, Fono, MCN, MVS, Satcom Global and Stratos.
