Later this afternoon we will see the arrival of Roland Jourdain's Sill et Veolia into Pointe a Pitre, first home in the Open 60 class. This win will be Roland Jourdain's finest moment to date in a solo offshore racing career that has spanned more than 20 years. The red hull of his Open 60 will be followed in this evening by her sistership Jean le Cam's VM Materiaux and then later by Jean-Pierre Dick on Virbac Paprec, who in this race has really proved his credentials as a solo Open 60 sailor. A fight could still be on between Armel le Cleac'h on Brit Air and Dominique Wavre Temenos, the Swiss Open 60 just 30 miles behind.

The action is still on in the Class 40s where the front runners are currently converging. Still 440 miles separate race leader Phil Sharp on the right (west) side of the race track from fourth placed Dominique Vittet on ATAO Audio Systems on the left, with second placed Gildas Morvan in the middle some 165 miles to the east of Sharp. The relative distances to the finish line have remained consistent between Morvan and Sharp at around 90-100 miles over the last 24 hours, despite them being in very different weather conditions - Sharp is upwind on starboard tack in about 25 knots of southerly breeze while Morvan is in lighter (10-15 knot) southeasterlies. Meanwhile Vittet continues to enjoy 15-20 knot northeasterlies and has been making much better progress over the last 24 hours - covering 283 miles to Sharp's 198 moving him back up to third place in terms of distance to finish.

While Sharp is currently on the wind the depression to the north of the boats is set to move east, and this will cause the wind to veer sharply to the northwest by tomorrow afternoon for Sharp. Sharp will be the first to get this favourable shift but due to the rapid nature of the wind shift it is likely to once again leave an ugly sea behind it. These conditions may also not suit Sharp now that he is lacking a genniker. However at this time Gildas Morvan and, finally, Dominique Vittet will be upwind, so the sitatuion could even itself out. In sixth place still Ian Munslow on Bollands Mill is following a similar track to Sharp, but further back up the track he is in similar conditions to Morvan at present reach on port in moderate airs.

The race is by no means over for the Class 40s.
