Regatta courses will be located in Charleston Harbor and offshore. Race headquarters will be located at the Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. Just across the harbor from historic downtown, this resort location offers one central site for docking, parking, hotel accommodations and the Race Village, where evening festivities will occur beachside.
HOW TO REGISTER: www.charlestonraceweek.com
Those interested in registering for this event should visit www.charlestonraceweek.com to review the Notice of Race and register online or by using the PDF form to be mailed. Registration closes on April 3, 2006.
- Charleston Race Week offers sailors an affordable, dynamic and fun race week experience. The three days of racing will prove to be tricky and competitive as local wind and current considerations can upset a traditional strategic approach. Whether racing an inner harbor course or the offshore course, the conditions and fronts that roll through the Lowcountry in April will challenge the best skippers and tacticians.
- Storage & Docking: Charleston Boatworks is offering free storage for trailered boats for three full months prior to the event. The first fifty boats registered will receive the option of free dock space Thursday-Sunday, April 6-9. The free dock space may require boats to raft 2-3 deep. Register before February 28 and receive a discount of $50.
Race Week was founded in 1996 by the Charleston Ocean Racing Association (CORA). By 2005 Race Week grew to 143 boats with over 800 sailors and is now the largest regional keelboat regatta with boats hailing from as far away as Canada, Michigan and Florida. In 2005 CORA announced a joint partnership with the South Carolina Maritime Heritage Foundation (SCMHF), a nonprofit foundation headed by Brad Van Liew, to organize and manage the event. Sponsors of the 2006 event include: returning Presenting Sponsor Seabrook Island, as well as, Raymarine, Ginn Clubs & Resorts, the Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina, Bauer International, Hall Marine, O’Malley Avant and Charleston Boatworks.
