Volvo veteran's viewpoint
Sunday October 22nd 2006, Author: James Boyd, Location: none selected
In this 15 or so minute long video Andrew Cape, one of the world's leading navigators and in Bilbao working with Alex Thomson and Hugo Boss, runs us through the weather and strategy typical for leg one of the Velux 5 Oceans between Bilbao and Fremantle, Western Australia. Capey refers to Cape Finistere, which the boats will be rounding on Monday after today's 1300 local time start, as "the new Cape Horn".
Cape provides fantastic insight on the course based on his huge Whitbread/Volvo Ocean Race experience.

NB: This video is formatted to play in Windows Media Player and is LARGE - therefore only suitable for those with broadband connections. Mac users can now view WMV files by downloading a suitable add on to Quicktime - we for example use Flip4Mac which works a treat. The only noticable difference is that while the clip will play out while downloading on a PC, on a Mac it must download first.
