The cockpit is wide and the overall beam is substantial for Reichel-Pugh, who are known for the skinny boats. The beam enables hiking to be more effective Jim Pugh tells us.
In the cockpit there are twin wheels and twin pedestals which can be linked and have an overdrive. Mainly these drive the carbon fibre Harken 880 primaries or the main sheet. "It's big gear, so that we can get overdrive for gybing," says Blanchfield. In total there are 10 winches, including two winches for the single backstay and two for the traveller winches, and two for the mainsheet. Although it is not hooked up at present the pedestals can also be hooked up to the pit winches for inshore races.
As one would imagine the cockpit is very clean cockpit with most lines led below deck.
The boats has a single backstay but Blanchfield says they are considering fitting twin runners should the decide to fit a larger square topped main when the boat comes to Europe this summer (Ross has her entered in the Rolex Fastnet Race and may then take her on to the Med).
