Bubb gets into gear

Last minute Route du Rhum qualifier for Kenmore Homes Class 40

Friday October 6th 2006, Author: Clemency Williams, Location: United Kingdom
Yesterday evening Nick Bubb left for his 1000nm qualifying passage, which he must complete in order to be on the start line for the Route du Rhum.

Bubb has worked incredibly hard to get Kenmore Homes on the water. Five weeks ago he arrived at the yard to find that the boat very behind schedule. However, with a team of ten, very dedicated, boat builders working up to 18 hours a day, he has achieved the impossible and Kenmore Homes if afloat and sailing in racing condition. There have been tremendous setbacks along the way, but the build team have created ingenious solutions and have not let anything get in their way to getting Kenmore Homes on the water.

Bubb is currently heading for a waypoint north of Finistere which he must reach before heading north to the Fastnet Rock. Then leaving the Scilly Isles to port, he plans to finish in Plymouth next week, just in time for the Round Britain and Ireland prizing giving. Upwind in 30 knots, Nick’s first night at sea was far from relaxing but the conditions have tested the boat and, so far, everything is working well.

Many thanks to Stephen Card, Arnold, Maxine Pachot, Blonde Julian, Dave Parker, Alistair, Julian Meunier, Marcus Evans, Ben, Charlie Darlin, Oliver Balham, Stephanie Gaspari and Clemency Williams.
