As predicted yesterday 2004 Transat AG2R winners Armel le Cleac'h and Nicolas Troussel on board Brit Air in making their gybe north from the southerly side of the race track have now overtaken yesterday's race leader Kito de Pavant and Pietro d'Ali on Groupe Bel to move into first place on the water with less than 500 miles to go to the finish.

There still remains 76 miles north-south separation on the water between the two boats, but as brit Air moves north, so she moves into similar conditions to the boats above her and as a result yesterday's one knot speed differential has dropped off.

The forecast for the next two days is for the wind to remain largely in the west, but a shift to the southeast as the Azores high encroaches on the Caribbean could finally pay for the boats to the north - but will it all be too late by then?
