Mandrake on course for handicap victory

An update from the China Sea Race

The finish boat was busy overnight, with the remaining IRC A and IRC Premier Cruising Division entrants reaching the end of their arduous race with the Kinmonth/Burns owned Farr-Mills 51 Mandrake looking likely to take first place in IRC A and also IRC overall on corrected time. As predicted throughout the race, Mark Thornburrow's Dream took first place on corrected time in Premier Cruising, while Steve Manning's Walawala took line honours for IRC Division B at 05:14hrs, followed just over an hour later by Blackjack.

Spare a thought for the twelve vessels still racing, which, although forecast to finish today, are again wrestling with the Philippine morning light airs which could push their arrival into Tuesday. Worst off is multihull Zuma, which is limping down the Luzon coast after reportedly breaking a crossbeam last night and, although all the crew are fine, will need repairs when she finally reaches her destination.
