The Irish Cruiser Racing Association announce participation in Rolex Commodores' Cup

The Irish Cruiser Racing Association (ICRA) have confirmed that an all Ireland representation will form another Irish three boat team to participate in the Rolex Commodores’ Cup in Cowes next June.

The line-up includes Tim Costello’s Mills 40 Tiamat, which races out of Dublin Bay launched in 2005 and had a very successful first season. She was the dominant force at the Bell Laurie Scottish Series as well as winning her class in Cowes Week with a race to spare in what was arguably the most competitive fleet at the event. Tiamat will be the Class 1 boat in the team.

Cork-based Eamonn Rohan is the owner of the newly commissioned Corby 37 which will be the Class 2 boat in the team. Rohan comes from a pedigree yacht racing background, with father John and uncle Ken remembered for their international sailing successes in the ‘70s and early ‘80s, particularly in the Holland designed 40 footer Regardless.

Andrew Allen’s and Colm Monahan’s Belfast-based J/109 No Naked Flames fills the Class Three boat slot. In 2005, her successes included coming second in her class at Cowes Week, winning Strangford Week and being tied with Anthony O’Leary’s Antix at Dun Laoghaire Week, only to finish second on count back.

"The announcement of another highly credible Commodores’ Cup team and the spread of participants between Belfast, Dublin and Cork is great news for Irish sailing," commented Commodore Fintan Cairns. "Together with Ger O Rourke's Class win in his new Cookson 50 in the Sydney/Hobart Race, this news adds to a building excitement in Irish sailing generally."
