Third 2005 victory for Beyou

Delta Dore skipper wins Figaro class' Route du Ponant

Jérémie Beyou and his Delta Dore have posted their third significant win this year, after the Generali Solo and the Solitaire Affelou de Figaro in the Figaro class' Route du Ponant - Grand Prix de Vendée 2005. In doing so Beyou has won the Figaro class' annual singlehanded championship for 2005.

Racing in the Route du Ponant concluded today with a windward-leeward course off Saint Gilles Croix de Vie. Racing got underway at 1000 in a stable 7-8 knot wind from 140°. There were individual recalls for three boats - second-placed Gildas Morvan ( Cercle Vert), Frédéric Duthil ( Brossard) and Romain Attanasio ( Mr Bookmaker).

At the first mark Jérémie Beyou had taken the lead from Thales skipper Erwan Tabarly. By the time the boats round the weather mark for the second time, Tabarly had taken the lead ahead of Oliver Krauss (Espoir Crédit Agricole) and Kito de Pavant ( Groupe Bel). Gildas Morvan have started in last position by this stage had risen to 13th.

At the finish line first home was Tabarly in front of Krauss with Christophe Lebas on Connivence third.

Thus in the overall points Beyou was able to secure his second Route du Ponant victory, followed by Morvan and de Pavant equal on 42 points, the Cercle Vert skipper taking second place as a result of him having had the better result in the 'islands tour' race earlier in the week.

The regatta proved extremely good for Skandia skipper Sam Davies, finishing fourth overall of the 25 competitors.
