Geronimo record ratified

De Kersauson's time around Australia gets the thumbs up from the WSSRC

The World Sailing Speed Record Council have ratified the non-stop record around Australia set recently by Olivier de Kersauson and the crew of the maxi-trimaran Geronimo.

Their ratified time for the course was 17 days 12 hours 57 minutes and 5 seconds. The Cap Gemini Scheider Electric-sponsored trimaran set sail from Sydney on 21 June and sailed anti-clockwise around Australia, including Tasmania, a voyage of 7,135 miles in total. Geronimo's average for this course was a shade under 17 knots.

De Kersauson's crew for the voyage included his regular watch captains Didier Ragot and Yves Pouillaude plus Philippe Laot, Antoine Deru, Lucas Zamecknic, Jean Charles Corre, David Leon, Xavier Douin, Paul Montigue, Chris Sterling and Dara Johnston.
