Speaking by satellite phone at 1700 this evening (Thursday 5 May), Jean Philippe Chomette, skipper of the 60ft monohull
CityJet (ex
Solune) said they hope to reach Rathlin Island by 1900 this evening, putting her currently 14 hours ahead of the existing record.
While he is unsure if they can sustain the wind speeds through the northern channel, Chomette is on target to reach the finish line within a two hour window of 0630 tomorrow morning.
With only 130 miles to go to Kisch Lighthouse, CityJet is averaging speeds of 12.2 knots. She passed Eagle Island off the Donegal Coast at 0750 this morning, 5.5 hours ahead of the existing Monohull Round Ireland speed record.
