Oryx Quest on Sky

Sky Sports are to broadcast APP's weekly updates from Tracy Edwards' Oryx Quest 2005.
The start of this 21,000 mile race non-stop around the world is from Doha, Qatar on 5 February and takes the fleet down the Indian Ocean, into the Southern Ocean and around the capes of Australia, New Zealand, South America and South Africa before returning to Qatar mid-end April.
The four vessels are competing for the $1million prize money
- Cheyenne, skippered by David Scully, was the first of a brand new class of maxi-multihulls designed to attack major ocean records. Cheyenne has broken 14 World Records, including the Transatlantic at 4 days, 17 hours and is currently the fastest boat around the world non-stop with a time of 58 days, 9 hours.
- Geronimo, skippered by Olivier de Kersauson, is the current Jules Verne record holder with a time of 63 days, 13 hours, 59 minutes and 46 seconds.
- Daedalus, skippered by Tony Bullimore, was once ENZA New Zealand, the Jules Verne record holder in 1994
- Qatar 2006, skippered by Brian Thompson, as Maiden II set a new 24-hour distance record (694 nautical miles) and set new times for the Cowes-St.Malo and the Round Great Britain & Ireland races.
A series of weekly updates on Sky Sports will broadcast the daily dramas, struggle against the elements and tenacity of the teams across the UK & Ireland. Produced by a team of the sailing producers and editors at APP Broadcast, a preview programme will be aired on Sky Sports on tonight - Thursday 27 January, followed by a series of weekly update programmes being aired every Thursday on Sky Sports, repeated on Fridays.
