Soon after the teams arriving at the Paul Vatine Basin ready for the start of the Transat Jacques Vabre 2005, they will be obliged to head out on to the water for the first weekend for the Renault-Transat Jacques Vabre Prologue event.
As with the official starts of the two handed transatlantic the following weekend, so the Open 50s and 60s will compete on the Saturday while the multihulls will line-up on the Sunday. On board each boat will be six crew, the two sailing in the main event itself plus be accompanied by one guest and a journalist as well as regular team crew.
Races will be 3-4 miles long with an unusual format that after each race the last boat in each class will be eliminated. For each class racing will culminate in a two boat match race for the Renault Kangoo team support vehicle on loan for the 2006 racing season.
