Race to run under the auspices of the RORC again

Challenge Business has announced that the forthcoming Global Challenge, which sets sail from Portsmouth, UK on Sunday 3rd October 2004, is once again to be run under the auspices of the RORC (Royal Ocean Racing Club).

Challenge Business also runs a number of other races under the auspices of the RORC - including the Round Britain and Ireland Challenge in association with the Daily Telegraph - helping to add real value to the many Crew Volunteers who train and race with the company.

The Admirals Cup, The Rolex Fastnet Race and The Volvo, to name but a few other prestigious races in the yachting calendar, are run by or under auspices of the RORC. The association is maintained therefore with the Global Challenge, which continues to introduce people to the world of ocean yacht racing, which underlies the ethos of Challenge Business and one of the aims of the RORC.

Janet Grosvenor, race manager from the RORC, adds: "We are delighted to be working with the Challenge team once again and also the host yacht clubs around the world. The RORC has been involved with the Global Challenge since the race started so it is with great pleasure that we are involved again."

The Global Challenge features 12 identical 72ft Global Challenge yachts, currently undergoing a multimillion-pound refit. Each yacht will race with one professional skipper and 17 Crew Volunteers, made up of men and women from all walks of life and nationality (11 in total). The race starts and finishes in Portsmouth and will race against prevailing winds and currents to Buenos Aires, Wellington, Sydney, Cape Town, Boston and Northern European port.
