The original deadline for submitting an Application for Entry in the 2004 Newport Bermuda Race has been extended from 1 April until 30 April because of delays in getting the on-line entry system up and running. The full entry process must still be completed by 15 May. On-line entry started 18 March, about a month later than in 2002.
The organisers are excited about both the number and quality of entries to date. Race Chairman John Winder counts more than 30 new boats and new skippers, and participation committee organiser Richie Shulman says the number of repeat racers is very strong. “All in all,” Winder said, “the race looks big. We have over 135 boats in the system now. With all the new boats and the regulars who tend to enter late, we hope to break the record of 182 entries this time out.”
Sailors who wish to enter in the Newport Bermuda Race should use the Online Entry System here. The application for entry requires approval based on skipper, boat and crew qualifications before an invitation to race is issued.
Starting on 18 June the Newport Bermuda Race is a pivotal race of the Onion Patch Series, raced for the North American IMS Championship, and is a major offshore component of the Northern Ocean Racing Trophy (NORT) Series as well.
