Bruno Peyron's maxi-cat breaks the Trans Med record

Bruno Peyron's maxi-catamaran Orange II reached Carthage, Tunisia this morning at 00:09:42 to claim the record for the Trans Med passage from Marseilles.

Subject to ratification by the World Sailing Speed Record Council Orange II has set a new time of 17 hours 56 minutes and 13 seconds for the 458 miles passage, some 50 minutes faster than the time set by the previous holder, Steve Fossett's PlayStation.
