The cat and mouse game between Jean le Cam's new Bonduelle and Mike Golding and his team on board Ecover continues in the Celtic Sea as in the early hours of this morning the leaders rounded Bishop's Rock to the west of the Scilly Isles. At the 01:40GMT position report Bonduelle was 2.2 miles ahead, but this morning Ecover has pulled back a mile.
The boats have around 140 miles to go before they get to round the Fastnet Rock which lies on a course of 300degM from their current position.
At present satellite wind radar charts show there to be around 10 knots of breeze from the NNW while the wind at Sevenstones Longship was 13 knots from 350deg. The boats are under the influence an area of high pressure to the west of Ireland that looks to remain fairly static over the next 24 hours. This area of high pressure is forecast to slowly move east but indications are at present that the boats should be able to round the Rock in pressure before this happens.
