To Poole and back

The Royal Southampton Yacht Club's Poole and Back Race was held on Saturday
19th and Sunday 20th June.
The Race Management Team set the Committee Boat between Calshot and Lepe for the start and finished the fleet off Poole entrance. In the northerly breeze the fleet carried spinnakers as far as Lymington where there was a tricky windless transition zone before the breeze filled in from the South West sometimes blowing up to 20 knots.
On the race to Poole Class 3, saw Gordon Appleby's Lightwave 48 Scarlet Oyster take line honours by two minutes 20 seconds from Nick Martin's J105 Diablo-J which came through to take victory on corrected time from Scarlet Oyster with Andrew Campbell's Bavaria 44 Faze 3 third.
Class 4 saw Ian Townend and John Cooper's Hunter 707 Tigerfeet take line honours but victory on corrected time went to Jon Woolgar's Westerly GK29 Green Kestrel with Ian Ward's Moody 29 Bedouin third. Alex Johnstone's Warrior 35 The Fox is seeking redress after rescuing two capsized canoeists off Bournemouth pier.
In the Multihull Class, Peter Bryant's Formula 40 trimaran Provu took line honours in a time of 3 hours 4 minutes but victory on corrected time went to Brian Haynes Farrier 33 Carbon Tiger II with Tony Purser's Banshee 35 Backlash second and third Simon Forbes' Dragonfly 800 Scooby III.
On Sunday the westerly breeze gave a light spinnaker run to the Solent with a strong rain squall with winds over 25 knots in the Solent.
On the race Back from Poole Class 3 saw Scarlet Oyster take line honours and victory on corrected time by 45 seconds from Diablo-J with Faze 3 third. The combined results overall saw Diablo-J win on a tie break. Back from Poole Class 4 saw Tigerfeet take line honours and victory on corrected time by 15 minutes from Green Kestrel with Bedouin third. Overall Green Kestrel won on the tie break.
Back from Poole in the Multihull Class, Provu took line honours in a time of 2 hours 43 minutes but victory on corrected time went to Carbon Tiger II with second Scooby III and third Provu. Overall Carbon Tiger won. The RSYC Gins Regatta at Beaulieu is on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th July.
