Gales in Ireland force postponement of Triangle Race re-start

The re-start of the Triangle race, for the second leg from Crosshaven to Treguier in Brittany, has been delayed at least 24 hours due to the forecast of gales off southern Ireland.

Having suffered a battering on the way for Crosshaven from Torquay, the fleet in this amateur double-handed race expressed concern at the continued bad forecast, and the decision was taken to postpone the start of the 270 mile second leg.

Finn Houlihan, the Royal Torbay Yacht Club's man in Crosshaven said, "I could lay on a start, but I don't think anyone would turn up, the forecast is appalling, there may be a window on Saturday when we can get them away."

But he pointed out that there is an upside, "It'll do wonders for the bar takings at the yacht club."

John Clapham, the race director, said he completely endorsed Finn's decision, having studied the weather forecasts himself, and he thought conditions would be more suitable on Saturday.
