2003 all over again?

Desperation for the Geronimo crew on their fifth consecutive slow day

Saturday April 17th 2004, Author: James Boyd, Location: Transoceanic
Day 51
Position at 2317GMT: 16°57S 36°29W
24 hour run: 269.26 miles
Average speed: 11.22 knots

For the fifth consecutive day Olivier de Kersauson and the crew of Geronimo have scored a daily run in the 200s rather than the 400s or 500s they crave. At present approaching Salvador they are still hanging on to their lead over Orange's 2002 Jules Verne Trophy record, but Cheyenne's end of day 51 position is now some 1,277 miles ahead of them.

The good news is that the wind has now freed up, veering around to ESE and today is showing a strength of 15-20 knots. If Geronimo is unable to make some serious mileage today then there must be a problem on board such a lack of gennikers.
