Around Alone competitors will be rolling into Newport tonight after their final pasting

It is going to be an action-packed night here in Newport, Rhode Island with back to back finishers expected through the night. The latest arrival is Thierry Dubois' Solidaires which has finished this leg in third place, to take second overall in the singlehanded round the world race.

Ocean Planet and Tommy Hilfiger Freedom America are expected later tonight while Emma Richards on Pindar is not having much luck with the conditions and is not expected to finish until 'sometime' tomorrow. During the early hours of this morning the centre of the low passed directly over Pindar, but now Richards is experiencing strong northerlies but is only making a course of 288degT - about 30degrees off course. These are expected to last through the evening as the wind gradually veers to the northeast and abates. It should be born in mind that the area she has been sailing through for the last day also runs the northeasterly flowing Gulf Stream - hence wind against current. Ironically the forecast shows that she is likely to finish in bearly any wind.
