The HiQ Sailing Team are not only leading the on-going Nokia Oops Cup with victories in the Oslo City Race, Faerder Race, Oresund City Race and Sjaelland Rundt, they also broke two speed records - in the Faerder Race by 7 minutes and in the Sjaelland Rundt by almost 9 hours!
HiQ skipper Klas Nylöf and navigator is Roger Nilson are both well known high performance sailors and have invited Bruno Peyron as co-skipper on HiQ during the final race this season, the Accenture Gotland Runt, starting this Sunday.
The 46 years old Frenchman is ranked as one of the best offshore multihull sailors in the world. Bruno Peyron's impressive record includes:
- first sailor to navigate around the world in less than 80 days (Jules Verne
Trophy 1993)
- The only sailor to win the Jules Verne Trophy twice (1993 and 2002)
- Founder of The Race - first round the world sailing race without any limits
2000/2001
- Launched and managed two syndicates finishing first and second in The Race
2000/2001
- holder of the record for for total cumulative miles sailed on an oceanic maxi-catamaran
(280 000 nautical miles)
- founder of The Race Tour 2006 concept: first around the world without limits with stopovers
"It's a real pleasure to join the HiQ team for this particular event once again on a fast multihull," says Bruno Peyron. "Opening up this new way of sailing is a lengthy process and I am glad that more and more professional sailors are kean to discover fast sailing on multihulls.
The first time we came to Sweden with a maximulti was in 1987, with my friend Roger Nilson. Since then many other swedish friends have joined us in the 'new world' and it's just the beginning! Let's hope that The Race International Circuit will help new countries to join the multi hull world".
Roger Nilson commented: "Yes we have been friends for long, having Bruno on HiQ is a
great pleasure and he will strengthen our crew with his vast multihull experience."
