Midnight local time (1300GMT 28 Dec)
Rolex Sydney Hobart Race leaders Skandia and Zana rounded Tasman Island together at 11.45pm (12.45GMT 28 Dec) tonight. The boats are three minutes apart.
The yachts are required to radio their position on rounding Tasman Island. Both yachts now have 40.8 miles to sail to the race finish at Castray Esplanade on Hobart's waterfront.
Grundig is considerably further back having gone offshore in their approach to entering Storm Bay.

At the entrance to the Darwent River is the Iron Pot mark, 11.2 miles from the finish. Skandia passes there at 02:31 (15:31GMT) followed by Zana at 03:05 (16:05GMT)
03:30 (1630 GMT 28 Dec)
Now into the Derwent River on the approach to the finish the wind has stalled. The tide turned at 0300 local time here

Skandia is two miles from the finish line. There are a few support craft out on the water in the pitch black to meet her.

Skandia is about 1 mile from the finish. The wind is a bit up and down and Skandia is accelerating up to about 10 knots in the gusts. She's sailing under full main and no.1. Dawn is about to break on the Darwent River. The crew are tietoeing across the deck in the light conditions. Skipper Grant Wharington is on the wheel.

Skandia crosses the finish line 04:14:06 local. Her time for the 628 miles course from Hobart is 2 days 15 hours 14 minutes and 6 seconds. On board the press boat Zana has just come into sight.

Skandia and Zana crews in Customs House (local Hobart hostelry) following extensive media grilling, champagne cork popping and (in the case of Skandia) choruses of 'AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE - - AUS AUS AUS'. Grundig still in the middle of Storm Bay, while Brindabella has just rounded Tasman Island.
