Team racing in Porto Cervo
The Yacht Club Costa Costa Smeralda today announced plans to hold an international team racing event at the Club's Mediterranean base in Porto Cervo, Italy. The event will take place over 2-6 July and the world's premier yacht clubs have been invited to attend.
Racing in the event will take place aboard Bavaria B/One Farr Yacht Design boats and each competing yacht club will field a team composed of two crews of four people. Each race will see four yachts on the starting line - two teams with two boats each - and the last boat to cross the finish line will determine the losing team.
The event programme will begin on 2 July with a practice day and will continue with round robins and semi-finals before the final race determines the victorious club. Courses will be short windward-leewards and the combination of top sailors, fierce competition and the spectacular conditions that regatta course off Porto Cervo is renowned for, should make for some thrilling racing.
No regatta at the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda would be complete without a busy social programme and guests from around the world will be able to experience the Club's celebrated hospitality dockside.
"Team racing is an exciting and demanding discipline - a vibrant area of yachting - and something the YCCS has been concentrating on in recent years with teams of our members competing across Europe with notable success," commented YCCS Commodore Riccardo Bonadeo. "We have wanted to organize an inter-club regatta which showcases excellence in this arena for some time and this year we are proud to invite Clubs that represent the cream of yachting to participate in the inaugural Invitational Team Racing Challenge. This will be a Corinthian regatta and I hope to see a lot of enthusiastic sailors on our waters for a truly memorable event."
Entries for invited teams are currently being accepted for up to a maximum of eight participating teams, including YCCS, on a first come, first served basis.
