Large turn-out expected for the ORCi Worlds
Only two months after entry opened, 74 yachts from 13 nations have registered for the ORC 2014 Worlds, including past winners and runners-up in 2012 and 2013.
“We’re very happy with the number of entries at this point in time," says Offshore Race Director of Kieler Woche and the 2014 ORC Worlds, Ecki von der Mosel. "We’ve already taken a big step towards our target of hosting 100 international ORC yachts at the Olympic Marina of Kiel-Schilksee in August 2014."
The event is also well under way in terms of establishing partners and sponsors. Two media partners and a new sponsor have committed themselves to support the ORC World Championship in Kiel.
Another yardstick to measure the success of an event of this size is the extent of the media coverage. With this in mind, the organisers have announced two new media partners. “Kieler Nachrichten and Segler-Zeitung will reach both the general public in the region and the national sailing community,” said Thore Hansen of marketing agency Point of Sailing. With 275,000 readers per day, Kieler Nachrichten is the biggest regional paper in Schleswig-Holstein’s capital city. The yachting magazine Segler-Zeitung has been a media partner for regatta events held in Kiel for many years, and will now extend its commitment to include this year's ORC Worlds.
The third ORC Worlds partner is yacht insurance specialist Pantaenius, a long-standing partner of Kieler Woche. “As a company with worldwide business, we are well suited to support a high-class event like the ORC World Championships,” says Martin Baum of Pantaenius. “And we’re also looking forward to having the 2014 Worlds here in the north of Germany.”
