British challenger for the Red Bull Youth America's Cup

Cowes-based GBR Youth Challenge reveals itself

A British team has revealed itself that is planning to campaign for the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup 2013.

GBR Youth Challenge's entry as an  individual team is currently being assessed by America’s Cup Race Management for a place  at the trials to be held during February in San Francisco.

The team believe they have what it takes to compete the top level on San Francisco Bay, with the primary aim of bringing the cup home next year. The Youth America’s Cup represents the pinnacle of Youth sailing. The event shall be held in San Francisco at the beginning of
September 2013, with trials running in February.

GBR Youth Challenge is made up of some of the best proven young sailors from Great Britain with a variety of different sailing backgrounds. All have competed at events of the very highest level including RC44 World Championships, TP52s, Melges 32s and F18 World  Championships. All have come through the British Keelboat Academy at some point in their  careers giving them not only access to top level coaching but also personal development training ashore. The sailing team is made up of, James French, Andrew Sinclair, Adam Lees,
Tom Forrester-Coles, Trystan Seal and Peter Austin.

The training regime is now under way. With the campaign currently based out of Cowes, Isle of Wight, the team will be training in the UK until the trials in San Francisco in February; building up fitness for the physical AC45 boats and widening itsexperience of catamaran sailing.

After February the team plans to extend its training to an Extreme 40 or similar platform before flying out to San Francisco for a training camp before the event.
