Superyacht facility on Southampton Water

Friday April 30th 2010, Author: James Boyd, Location: United Kingdom

A new superyacht facility has opened up on the west side of Southampton Water opposite Southampton city. Solent Refit, as it is known, features a large capacity 1500 ton horizontal slipway capable of handling vessels up to 70m.

With a purpose build rail transfer system, vessels can be easily moved from the slipway to locations for longer term periods of work out of the water. There is 10,000sqm of under cover work areas for those requiring protection from the weather.

Solent Refit is a unique location for superyachts in the Solent area, as it has unrestricted access direct from the deep channel of Southampton Water, at all states of the tide. There are no sills or obstacles to the main slipway and the large working pontoons can
provide 14 service berths for superyachts up to 100m with road access.

Ashore Solent Refit is able to provide workshop containers and offices on the dockside. Heavy lifting cranes and shoreside equipment are
available to support work projects, including stepping of masts for larger yachts.

The site is managed by Yacht Project Associates based in Christchurch, Dorset.
