Student Yachting World Cup

1st race: The wind was very weak and so there was a long wait before starting and there would be only one lap. There was finally enough wind to launch a race but with the wind direction changing all the time the regatta was postponed twice. The third try was good and the English crew was very fast and far ahead. Unfortunately they didn’t notice that there was only one lap and most of the fleet followed them. The Dutch team took advantage of this to win this first regatta to the amazement of most of the other teams.
2nd race: There was not much wind but it was a nice and hard won regatta according to the Jury. There was a rather daring but successful tack at the windward mark by the Swedish team.
Day two was cancelled because of too much wind. The boats stayed in the harbour and the crews stayed in the bars near the seaside...
3rd race:
This proved quite difficult to start and after two false starts the English were blackflagged. There was a collision between the Swedish, Portuguese and English boats. The Japanese boat had also a problem with its mast. Because of a bad weather forecast and increasing wind, the committee urged the fleet to go back to the harbor and cancelled the overnight race and allowing the damage to be fixed.
4th race:
The team from Utrecht won this race and showed everybody that even though they could have been lucky in the first regatta they were also good sailors.
5th race:
The English team took its revenge of the first regatta by winning this last regatta in a close finish with the Norwegian team.
Fifth day
No regatta again: too much wind. The boats stayed in the harbour. Beginning of inventories.
