Three major events coming up next month in Porto Cervo

Porto Cervo will become centre of the universe for big boat racing in September with a series of three back to back events.

The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda will play host to the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup on September 1-7. This will be followed by the Swan Cup on September 8-15 and the Sardinia Cup on September 16-22.

Approximate 25 boats are expected to take part in the Rolex Cup (see list below). These will be divided in the Cruising, IMS and Wally Divisions, the latter which continues to expand.

Among the participants already registered are Harry MacLowe's Unfurled, Carlo Perrone's Virtuelle and Alessandro Grande's Vae Victis. Last year these boats won prizes in the 30 meters, Cruisers/ORC Club and Wally class.

This time round there will also be Marco Tronchetti Provera on Kauris III, Pasquale Natuzzi aboard Antonisa and Pier Luigi Loro Piana on My Song (above) will be fighting for the World Champion Title established by ISAF for this event. Furthermore, Alberto Roemmers - President of the Association's Maxi - will sail on his Alexia.

Following the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup, the docks of Porto Cervo Marina will see the fleet of Swans yachts moored up there to content, every second year, their World Championship. For this the 12th running, an impressive 110 entries have already been registered.

September's racing calendar will conclude with the Sardinia Cup. This world championship is based on teams comprising one Farr 40 OD and one IMS-rated yacht. 10 teams have already enrolled. During this regatta, the first European Championship of the new IMS 600 class will be held.
