Duelling trimarans
Friday May 23rd 2003, Author: James Boyd, Location: Italy
Now that the Challenge Mondial Assistance has finished, it is not yet over for the 60ft trimarans who today and tomorrow will be taking part in the Regata de la Citta di Rimini.
This will be a simple 2 mile reach-reach (as opposed to windward-leeward) full on boat speed extravaganza between the boats - the first time this format of racing has been tried in this class.
Today matches include:
Michel Desjoyeaux's Géant v Franck Cammas' Challenge Mondial winner Groupama
Thomas Coville's Sodebo v Steve Ravussin's Banque Covefi
Karine Fauconnier's Sergio Tacchini v Lalou Roucayrol's Banque Populaire
Jean le Cam's Bonduelle will take on the best loser
The first flight will begin at 1300 in front of the Marina di Rimini, a two mile course angled at 90° from the wind with the possibility of using the gennaker.
First results this afternoon!
