The Stars & Stripes v Le Defi match was run then cancelled due to strong winds, but this was not before Le Defi's forestay had broken. When the race was reheld Le Defi had been unable to fix the problem and couldn't make the start. Victory Challenge's Orn also suffered a genoa halyard failure.

Today's results see Alinghi and OneWorld level pegging in first place at the end of the first Round Robin - OneWorld remain unbeaten, but went into RR1 with a point docked. Mascalzone Latino's second race of the day against their fellow countrymen on Prada didn't take place because they broke their spinnaker pole when racing GBR Challenge (NOR rule 8 specifies - "should a yacht incur damage before the end of the first race on a day when it is scheduled to race two races, that yacht may be excused from starting in the second race."

The inter-Italian match will now take place at the beginning of Round Robin 2. Should Prada win this the end of RR1 will see them locked in fourth place alongside Team Dennis Conner and GBR Challenge.
