707 team racing
Friday April 23rd 2004, Author: Class Association, Location: United Kingdom
Team racing in Hunter 707s is in its third highly successful year and the class association is extending an open invitation to all other dinghy and keelboat fleets to pit their skills against one-another and the largest sports-boat fleet racing in the Solent.
The event will be run by the Hunter 707 class association, and hosted by the Royal Southern Yacht Club in Hamble, on the weekend of 22 and 23 May.
Sailing will take place in teams of three boats each with four crew, which is one less than the usual five, due to not using spinnakers. As the level of competition will be intense, umpire boats will be on hand to quickly resolve any protests.
Last years’ event was won by the Hamble river team, which included 707 National Champion Ian Southworth on Chilli Chaser and East Coast and Scottish Champions Black Sheep. The Hunter 707 is also a popular team racing boat with sailors outside the class and has been selected again as for the 2004 Oxford v Cambridge varsity match.
Boats will be provided and teams will be accepted from any other dinghy or keelboat fleet. Whilst complete teams of 12 are preferred if you can only muster crew for one or two boats, the organisers will create mixed fleet teams. Entry is on a first come first served basis.
