RYA courses from Formula 1

New sideline for Gosport-based company

Gosport-based yacht charter company Formula 1 Sailing, have launched their own RYA-approved sailing school. The company appointed Round the World racing yachtsman and Transatlantic race skipper, Philippe Falle, as Chief Instructor to strategically build a unique training program utilising F1Ss fleet of Farr 65s and Reflex 38s.

Falle says: “Formula 1 Sailing has the right infrastructure, expertise and ethos to provide a comprehensive range of high level race training and when combined with an RYA structure this service I believe is largely unrivalled by any other sailing schools. We are aiming at those people who want to race but also gain the formal qualifications. Our strength will be in sailing, teaching and coaching with an aim to get students to a high level of expertise.”

From February, Formula 1 Sailing will offer sailing and shore-based RYA courses from Competent Crew to Yachtmaster Ocean, including an 18 week Yachtmaster Professional Development programme. In addition will offer race training at all levels, from introductory trimming through to ocean race tactics and weather strategy. The five day advanced program will utilise the skills of top level pro International sailors on a matched fleet of Reflex 38s.

In addition, Falle completely reviewed the current Fastrack Yachtmaster Intensive programm and co-ordinated a scheme which addresses the weaknesses, by firstly extending the time on the water, providing at least three weeks of self skippering, appraisals after each module and continual assessment throughout the 18 week course.
