DAME award winners

Results from the prestgeous marine industry awards at METS

Tuesday November 18th 2008, Author: James Boyd, Location: United Kingdom
The marine industry's prestigeous DAME award was this morning presented to Steyr Motors GmbH for their hybrid propulsion system, which allows a yacht to operate in any of four modes.

The engine itself can be used to start the engine, eliminating the need for a starter motor. The engine can also be used as a generator to charge the vessel’s batteries. It can be used as well to leave a harbour in the cruise mode under electric power at speeds up to 5 knots. And finally, the engine can be used in the "boost" mode in situations where additional power is required to get the boat onto a plane.

After much deliberation the jury decided on the overall DAME Winner, commenting “Well deserving of the accolade, the jury felt this trendsetting product will have a significant influence on boating in the next few years.”

More on the Henry Lloyd jacket here:

The new Henri Lloyd TP2 Shadow 2G Jacket winning its category at the 2008 DAME Award, follows the success from the 2006 & 2007 DAME Awards when Henri Lloyd received a special mention for the TP2 Phantom Jacket – Women’s and Atmosphere Jacket respectively.

Since its introduction in 1991, the DAME Award has become recognised worldwide as the leading international competition of its type in the field of marine equipment and accessories.

Henri Lloyd won Category 5 – Clothing and Crew accessories, alongside Crewsaver, Musto and On Deck – Imhoff, and the announcement took place at the METS Breakfast Briefing this morning.

The TP2 Shadow 2G Jacket features the Hood System, which is exclusive to Henri Lloyd, and offers excellent peripheral vision in racing situations. The OptiVision Hood System incorporates transparent TPU panels which have been engineered into each side of the high visibility hood, therefore allowing a wider peripheral vision without the loss of protection to the face. Perfect for windward or leeward peripheral vision during pre-start manoeuvring or close quarter action during mark rounding to give you that all important tactical advantage.

The jacket is constructed from Henri Lloyd’s 2.5 layer TP2 Alpha fabric technology, the fabric combines a hydrophilic laminate with a microporous coating offering dramatic performance results, whilst providing the breathability of a mid-layer alongside the waterproof protection of an outer shell. The fabric also ensures increased comfort and durability due to the inclusion of an improved Super Durable Water Repellent finish (SDWR). The SDWR has been engineered to reduce the diminishing effect that salt water has on regular water repellent finishes.

With a heavily loaded feature list, the full range consists of the TP2 Shadow 2G Jacket, TP2 Shadow 2G Hood Smock, TP2 Shadow 2G Smock, TP2 Shadow 2G Salopette and finally the TP2 Shadow Short. All the Shadow 2G products combine to provide the ultimate racing collection; the perfect system for all racing sailors from an SB3 to a TP52.

The jacket is available in Vivid Blue, Carbon & Light Grey in size XS – XXL and will be launched at the London Boat Show 2009 and available at retail from January 2009, RRP: £200.
