Last weekend's round of Garmin Hamble Winter Series took place in 20-25 knots

The Garmin Hamble Winter Series, run by Hamble River Sailing Club, remains on track after delivering another full programme and excellent days racing in the Solent on Sunday. MDL's Port Hamble Marina was the day sponsor.

In contrast to last weekend’s drifting conditions in bright sunshine, Sunday delivered typical Winter Series conditions above forecast with a constant 20 to 25 knot southwesterly across both Black and White fleet courses.

Black Group PRO Jamie Wilkinson decided that conditions were not ideal for a two race schedule and courses for single races of up to 20 miles were set for the IRC classes.

In IRC Zero Paragon made her first appearance of the series count with a win from Tangent Minus 1. In IRC1 the two Sailing Logic boats Puma Logic and Jaguar Logic headed the fleet. Despite being second on the water to Jaguar Logic, the consistency of Puma Logic gave her the overall IRC1 series lead heading into the mid-series break. Elaine consolidated her series lead in IRC 2 with her first win of the series. In IRC4 Whippa Snappa took her first win of the series, while Menace added another second to their consistent scoreline, thereby consodidating its handsome series lead.

Among the Black fleet one-designs Journeymaker 5 scored a win in the J/105 fleet as two of her competitors were scored OCS. It was a similar tale in the Sigma 38s where With Alacrity, the previous series leader led round the course, but was also scored OCS, giving Light a surprise win in both the Sigma 38 class and IRC3. Within the J/109 fleet it was business as usual as J-Dream scored a fourth race win with Shiva, making her first outing in the series, coming home second.

Over on the White fleet course all three races went off as programmed, despite gusts up to 28 knots. A few competitors headed for home before but the start of the third race, but most seemed to relish the tough conditions. Oi! ! scored a consistent 2, 1, 2 in the J/80 fleet maintaining her overall series lead. Chill Pill had the best day out of the SB3 fleet with a 7, 3, 1 scoreline. Rumbleflurg and Seamark Nunn also scored race wins. The Hunter 707 Touchdown scored three wins within the small SBR fleet.

Next weekend sees the traditional weekend break in the series with racing resuming for all competitors on Sunday, 8 November.
